Hospitality Employees Are Apprehensive About The COVID-19 Vaccine, Survey From Harri Finds

NEW YORK, NY (February 10, 2021) – Harri, an enterprise human capital management platform serving 20,000 restaurant and hotel locations that represent over 3 million hospitality employees, today released its 2021 Hospitality Vaccination and Employment Status Report. The report findings represent 4,250 former or current hospitality employees.
This survey analyzes employee sentiments regarding vaccination and willingness to remain in the industry as U.S. restaurants begin to enforce vaccine mandates on customer-facing employees. Of the employees surveyed:
- 29% of respondents will not take the vaccination as a personal choice;
- 26% of respondents would consider finding another place to work if they were required to vaccinate;
- 90% said their employer has not proactively discussed a COVID-19 vaccination process;
- 50% would consider moving to retail if mandated to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.
“The challenge, as we see it, is exploring answers to the following questions,” said Dan Murdoch, VP of Marketing at Harri. “Who currently has the ability to be vaccinated, will they receive the vaccination of their own personal choice, and has their employment status changed as a result of the instability caused by COVID. We want to deliver a realistic interpretation on the labor market and key considerations for businesses looking to re-open or correlate increased hiring activities with eased restrictions.”

Respondents showed mixed concerns regarding the COVID-19 vaccine. Of those respondents opposed to receiving the vaccine, the reasons were:
- 57% are worried about side effects;
- 46% want to wait to see if it is effective;
- 22% do not believe in vaccinations;
- 10% are applicable to a medical or religious exemption.
